One of the guys who killed Raj's father is Priya's father. When Priya's father is at Raj's house, he notices a picture of Devesh and Raj and learns who Raj is. Raj is the main suspect as a result of the suspicion. The vehicle takes on a life of its own and quickly turns into a killing machine, exacting vengeance on the assassins of Devesh. He purchases the vehicle and converts it into 'Tarzan', a futuristic-looking vehicle he creates in honour of his late father. Raj once notices his father's old automobile in a junkyard while passing by. He meets Priya, who has just got back from London, and they start dating. Raj is a simple-looking, geeky person who receives jeers for his appearance. Devesh drowns and passes away, leaving behind his little son and mother.Īfter a few years, Raj has grown up and is ready to start college. The men make the decision to put him in his car and then abandon it in the neighbouring lake. Devesh challenges the men, and during the ensuing melee, Devesh is knocked down and rendered unconscious. He had no idea that they would go back and claim ownership of the concept by patenting it.ĭevesh reports the crime to the police in an effort to obtain justice, but subsequently learns the hard way that the police officer was complicit in the fraud. He spends many hours designing before presenting his idea to a four-man automotive firm. He possessed an old car that his father had left to him, and he intended to give it to his son Raj.

Seth''s got the goods,alright.Unfortunately Taarzan- the wonder car drives us crazy and turns out to be a not so wonderful experience after all.The Story focuses on Raj's father, Devesh, was a visionary automobile designer. Vatsal Seth is very endearing, moving from frame to frame felicitously especially in the first half and the dance sequences.Just a little more hard work on his dialogue delivery and he should be awelcome addition to the burgeoning list of newcomers. Of the performances, Ayesha Takia makes a confident debut, but should go easy on her razzle-dazzle and corny outfits. More importantly can we have the technical legedermain and snappy editing that you''ve displayed in your earlier films? Even Ajnabee(2001)seems like a milestone in comparison. Dear Abbas bhai, Mustan bhai, please return to the chilling form of Khiladi and Baazigar. The haunted car with a devilishly bad attitude and the dufus who designs the sleek car, the car''s chrome-accented charms could have made for some fun-filled moments as in The Love Bug(1968) or our very own Ganguly brothers'' chucklefest Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi(1958). Thereafter, Taarzan, takes on a personality of its own as a homicidally vengeful car. However moppets and tots below 12 years of age might find some mirth in the proceedings, which certainly seem like child''s play. What one can''t fathom is whether the film is supposed to be dark ride into the limitless possibilities about spirits from the nether world coming back to create havoc, or if the film is meant to raise laugh about a car careening wildly out of control. Finally in the tradition of Ghost, the vengeful spirit of the autocar engineer returns to the netherworld after setting all the wrongs right. Moreover the love-story is left undone and half-baked. The young cast is appealing enough, but the story bogs down into yet another trite nerds & bullies drama whenever Taarzan, the car is off screen.

Also, you don''t need to be a whiz to discern that his 'London-Oxford' lady love is the daughter of one of the evil men who had bumped Raj''s father off. Raj sets to the task of restoring Taarzan, and the real power that hums beneath the car''s hood begins to emerge, seemingly granting newfound coolness and sex appeal to the once-nerdy outcast. Where Raj obtains the mega bucks to metamorphose the crummy car into a sleek mean machine called Taarzan is something only the awry screenplay can explain. Raj spots a run-down beetle in a junk dealer''s garage (which belonged to his deceased dad) and converts into a sleek wonder car. Nerdy works part-time in a garage owned by Kartar Singh (Amrish Puri, wonderful as always). He''s in love with 'London-Oxford educated' (Ayesha Takia). Zipping around in his cycle, he also reminds you of Peter Parker in Spiderman. Raj, in the manner of many teenage capers (Koi.Mil Gaya, lately) is ragged by the college bullies. Fast forward to 12 years later to his geeky glasses sporting son Raj (Vatsal Seth). The car designer is bumped off.the evil doers must get their comeuppance. The story of an autocar engineer who designs a fancy car but is gypped out of his money and royalties doesn''t serve up to much on-screen masala. A rehash of Stephen King''s chilling novel Christine (which director John Carpenter adapted on screen in 1983),Taarzan is an uneasy ride.
